Browser/OS/Screen Resolution issues |
| Which Browsers do you support? |
|
We aim to support the following browsers:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7
Seamonkey / Firefox (Open source browsers)
Opera should also work, but is not regularly tested.
We recently phased out support for Internet Explorer 4.x, 5.0 and 5.5
and Netscape 4.x, as these do not support many of the newer HTML features such as
Cascading Style Sheets. Pages will not display as intended, and
pages that rely on advanced features such as Javascript may break on these obsolete browsers.

|
| Which Operating Systems do you support? |
|
We have tried to author the site to support the widest range of operating systems possible.
We do NOT used fixed point sizes in our HTML, as this can cause fonts to be illegible when displayed on MAC/UNIX platforms.
BUT:
According to our website logs, the vast majority of our visitors are running Internet Explorer on a Windows Operating system. Therefore, the bulk of
authoring work and testing is done on Windows platforms. |
| |
|
|
| Which screen resolutions do you support? |
|
Approximately 30% of our site visitors are running at a screen resolution of 800x600 - as a result, the pages
are authored to TRY and support this resolution.
However, due to the technical nature of some of the pages on this site some pages may display better at higher resolutions. |
| |
|
|
| Why is the text on some pages too small to read? |
|
Windows sets its font scaling to 96dpi.
Apple MACs, and UNIX systems, use 72dpi.
When displaying fixed point sizes (eg 10pt text), this has the effect of "shrinking" the text on MACs and UNIX systems.

| I get script errors on a page... |
|
Because of the wide variety of Browser/Operating Systems we try to support, there may be some scripts which
don't work correctly with your browser/OS combination.
Email me with details of the page in question, your browser and operating system, and I'll see if
I can fix the problem! |

Datasheet / PDF issues |
| How do I save a datasheet or package drawing? |
|
There are two methods of displaying PDFs:
- With the Web-Browser plug-in
(known as Web-Browser integration):

- Web-Browser Helper Application (Standalone):
Adobe Acrobat Viewer launches as a separate application, and displays the PDF document.
Use the Acrobat SAVE / PRINT icons, or select SAVE AS, or PRINT from the File menu.
|
| |
|
|
| Why do I get gibberish when I try and print a PDF file? |
|
- You have web-browser integration enabled, and have clicked the wrong PRINT icon.
- You are not using the correct Printer Driver for your printer.
- Try downloading the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
|
|
|
|
| What version of Acrobat Reader do I need? |
|
Our Acrobat PDF documents can be read using Acrobat Reader version 3 onwards. |

|
| When I try and print a page from this site, the printout disappears off the right hand side of the
paper. |
|
A piece of paper's width is narrower than its length (e.g. 210 mm wide x 297 mm long).
A Computer monitor is WIDER than its Height. (e.g. 1024 pixels wide x 768 pixels high).
Therefore, to get your wide computer display to print on a narrow piece of paper, we have to rotate the paper through 90° - this is
known as printing in LANDSCAPE mode. Set your printer driver to print in LANDSCAPE when printing, and your printouts should fit! |
