In addition to our standard range, custom
devices can be designed and manufactured to
meet specific functional or cost
requirements.
We have a dedicated Opto Laboratory
equipped with a comprehensive range of
optical and electronic equipment. This
includes a Spectroradiometer,
Monochromator, Optical Spectrum Analyser
and optical alignment stages to facilitate
the design and characterisation of optical
devices and systems.

Custom Design |
|
In addition to our
standard range, custom devices can be
designed and manufactured to meet your
specific functional or cost requirements.
This includes specialist filter design,
either directly onto the silicon or on to
glass/plastic substrates.
Applications
We have successfully designed devices that
are used in a wide
range of applications including:
• Exhaust gas monitoring
• Document security
• Industrial process control
• Radiation detection and environmental
(gas) monitoring
• Medical analysis equipment
• Ride height sensing
• Linear encoder devices
• Vending machine mixture control
• Helicopter rotor vibration
monitoring
• Tank turret control

Chip-on-Board Design &
Assembly |
|
Removing discrete packages
from new or existing designs and replacing
them with a chip-on-board solution is often
the easiest way to reduce cost, size and time
of assembly.
Services:
• PCB population
• Clean room environment
• Solder/epoxy die-attach of CCD/CMOS
arrays, photodiodes, LEDs
and Lasers - all onto a variety of
substrates
• Heavy and fine-wire bond
• Encapsulation of photodiodes, LEDs
and arrays (automated and
manual) including lens forming
• Plasma cleaning
• UV oven and spot-lamp cure
• Module potting (for harsh
environments)
• Hermetic lid seal
• X-Ray inspection
• Optical alignment

Optical Design |
|
Optical system design
projects are managed by Semelab engineers
from initial concept through to volume
manufacture. Technical feasibility studies
are undertaken initially to explore all
possible design options, and enable the
customer to select the most suitable design
for the application. Prototypes can then be
built and moved into design for
manufacture.
Recent designs
include:
• Linear encoder module for harsh
environments
• Ride-height sensor
• Tyre temperature sensor

Radiation Detectors |
|
Radiation detectors utilise silicon
photodiode technology but with the addition
of a crystal or membrane of scintillator
material. Scintillators convert the higher
energy x-rays into the visible spectrum,
which can then be detected by a
photodiode.
Custom detectors
• Designed to suit customer-specific
applications
• Excellent response to Gamma, Beta and
X-ray radiation
• Design, test and manufacture of
complementary ASICS for use with your
radiation detection system
